A request for help: cut tags not working

Hey all -

Can anyone tell me why my cut tags aren't working?

I've tried both HTML and the Rich Text Editor. It shows the "read more" but then also shows the rest of the post? When I go in to edit, the second </cut> is missing (even though it's there when I'm ready to post).

You're just using <cut> and </cut> then? If so that's the problem! It's <lj-cut text="text here"> (you can omit the text part, of course) and </lj-cut>.

Yeah, according to the FAQ they should support both--but question: I thought the "cut text" part was just if you wanted to add something other than "read more"?

yeah that's right, if you just put <*cut> <*/cut> then it'll say Read More... but it should work.

Yep, that's what it's for. It drives me bonkers NOT to have it; your mileage may and probably will vary!

What are you trying to put between the cut tags cos some html may interfere with the cut tag maybe?

I deleted the post until I can figure this out.

I used the Rich Text Editor (highlighted all text behind the cut). After publishing it showed the "read more," along with the rest of the post.

I went in to edit the HTML (which I suck at) and noticed there was no , so I added and saved, but same result. When I went in to edit again, the was gone.

I'm pretty sure I'm a dope and doing some simple stupid thing wrong. Thank you for trying to help!

I don't use the Rich Text editor very often, so I was just playing with it in my journal. It's tricky to do cuts with the RTE, isn't it?!

I wonder if, as wolfpurplemoon suggested, it's your content that is borking the code. If you have a broken URL or user name or something like that, it can easily mess up a cut.

This is very much a possibility. Borked HTML is also very good at messing up cuts.

Thanks for the suggestions. ☺ After I posted this we had a bunch of thunderstorms and our internet died, so I took the night off trying to figure it out. I'm sure it's exactly what you said (and I probably made it worse going from one editor to the other). I'm going to take another shot. Wish me luck!!

It worked! But I have no idea how. I tried Rich Text and HTML again, and as a last resort the DW Markdown. Weirdly, I think the last one did the trick?!
