It's Meg here, known otherwise on Imzy as pyxamid. Neato.
Back when I was active on Imzy, I mostly posted about neurodiversity. Fun fun fun fun fun. If anyone here whose been exiled to the depths of dreamwidth is into that sorta stuff, I'm here nowwww.

If you search dreamwidth by interest you should find a community for neurodiversity, or you can also make your own (you aren't limited to 10 communities here!)

I'm a software dev living in Boston and interested in information security and digital privacy, so I was mostly involved in /infosec and /boston.

This is Meg. I guess I'm really getting confusing with the various usernames I switch between. :(
I should really work on that...

I'm balganwall from Imzy. I wasn't too active, but I did enjoy reading posts from the communities I'd joined. I hope the Imzy spirit can continue in full force here. It's a haven amidst all the negativity and bile that seems to be the norm online now.

Welcome to Dreamwidth :) Yeah it's kinda old fashioned, but many of us like the similar community structure and also the staff are pretty cool too (and don't wish to censor their users which is good!)

Hello!
I haven't posted anything on my journal yet (this is my very first post anywhere, actually), but I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and joining a nice and welcoming community again.
Re: Hello!
I'm so glad you've joined here :)
/binding jumped on the DW train too!
we at /binding wanted to keep going, so we switched to https://diybinder.dreamwidth.org. Check it out if you're interested in talk about chest binders, whether DIY or bought! :)

group idea. Anyone interested?
I (or you or we) could create one on Ravelry and invite all of you. I think you'd have to join ravelry.com for me to invite you to a specific group there.
It's called a crafting community but you don't have to craft to join or create a group. Some of the groups there have nothing to do with crafting.
It runs really smoothly and quickly. The main developer and creator has done a wonderful job with it. The servers are reliable.
Google searches won't show the content of your posts there.
Membership is free. It's free to have a group. All features there are free. You can create polls and post photos. (Posting photos is free if you use a separate photo hosting site like flickr etc. but I think it's $5 a year if you want to store photos on Ravelry instead) If you want, you can click Watch or Ignore thread. If you click Ignore then the thread disappears. If you click Watch then it's stickied. You can search through a thread just to see its images. And lots more features. Though it's also very simple to use if you aren't interested in the features.
I find the interface there intuitive and elegant.
You can see all the groups you belong to on the screen at one time and you can even see the topic of each thread within that group from the past month or click a button to get to older posts. The search function for posts is also very good if you are looking for a specific topic or word.
In addition, each group also gets a chat room of its own.
They have sitewide rules for treating each other well. Abusers will get banned from Ravelry by the owners of Ravelry. But you can also ban people from your group if you are the group's moderators at your own discretion. They have some nice features for moderators. For example, anyone can red flag a post and then the red flag can only be seen by the group's moderators. The moderators can then post mail to each other on ravlery privately or they could go in the chat room to discuss it.
There are over 7 million Ravelry users from all over the world. It's a mostly female community but men do participate and are welcome. It is possible to create a private group for only people you invite but most people choose to make public groups.
