I'm still acclimating to how things work: looks like this gif was uploaded to dreamwidth. Is this something you can do with a paid account? Seems that most of the images here are hosted elsewhere.

I have never seen a dreamwidth mascot - even LJ had Frank the Goat!

Yes you have some storage for images as a free account, just head here http://www.dreamwidth.org/file/new (the link is under the "create" menu - upload images)

You can't upload from the create post screen, you have to upload your images then copy the embed code into your post, but you can pick what size the thumbnail is pretty easily :)

Dreamwidth doesn't have a formal mascot, but over time quite a lot of Dreamsheep have been posted to the comm.
