I've never been this sad about the demise of a company

I felt like I was part of the company. Certainly made a ton of animations for them in the past year.

I'm still getting used to how dreamwidth works. It's a little strange but it's heartening to see so many imzy expats gathered here.

After I joined, there were certain names I learned very quickly as contributors Imzy (collectively) loved and respected--Zork was one of them. You were as much a part of Imzy as anyone could be.

I'm also still so sad. It was a tiny community but I still liked being there a lot. :(

Yes, I guess it was just a little too tiny to sustain, but it made the people who were there a little more close.

Yup. I never noticed just HOW much it had grown on me until I got that "Imzy will be shutting down" e-mail. I honestly stared at my phone in shock. It was such a nice little smol place.

I literally sat down in front of my computer with my dinner, refreshed imzy and the post was at the top of my feed. I left the first comment of just "uh, what?" before I'd even read the whole thing! Just totally shocked!

I had the same reaction to the e-mail... I then immediately dropped everything and rushed over to Imzy like SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS A JOKE AND THE E-MAIL WASN'T ACTUALLY FROM IMZY OH MY GOD IT ISN'T A JOKE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm still not over this.

Y'know people always say they remember where they were when Lennon was shot or 9/11 happened, I think I'll always remember where I was when I learnt Imzy was closing. ;_;

Likewise! It was just -- it HAS been such a regular part of my routine for over a year. (I joined May 18th of last year.) A place to check in, see the latest. I sensed that activity wasn't where it needed to be but I figured they were working on a lot of technical things behind-the-scenes and had some strategies in place for bigger pushes. They'd just rolled out that new "follow" function. I thought, if anything, they were going to make a big announcement about a relaunch. That "shutting down" message seemed so sudden... probably more so because we haven't been privvy to the behind-the-scenes in real time, as much as the staff has been accessible to members.

I'm sad about the loss of this virtual home-base for myself. Sad about the loss of jobs for them. So curious about how it all went down. And where do they go from here.

I joined in summer or fall last year (back when you still needed invitations because everything was in beta)... so yeah, it has been quite some time for me as well!

And I agree, I thought the same thing - a relaunch with more features, especially after that recent friending feature. But a complete shutdown? It really hit me. Still does. And I'm so sorry for the folks who worked their butts off for the site. :(
