Hey, fellow Imzyites! (Imzyers? I forget!) The site may be gone, but we don't need to lose touch. Here are some ideas for keeping the community alive:

• Join this community! Get a free Dreamwidth account if you don't already have one, then click the "join" button up in the page header, or use this link. (Bonus: Use the tracking feature to be emailed when someone posts.)
• Greenie has set up a discord chat instance, too.

Maybe we can use these for the same kind of thoughtful and fun discussion that I think attracted so many of us to Imzy.

I also like the idea of people finding out about interesting new communities months from now and posting them here, which is why I mention the Track button -- even if we don't use this place for discussion, that's could be a way to send up the bat-signal so we can find a new social space. :-)

I've never really been active on DW but between Imzy's closing and LJ's continued slow demise, I'm happy to take another look at it.

Heya Imzynauts. I'm @misbegotten on Imzy, mod of /100words, /introvert, /karlurban, /mystery, /pittsburgh_penguins, /sleepless, and /sorkinverse. I just wanted to say hullo to fellow DW users.

/100words is mirrored at 100words, if you like a weekly dose of microfiction on your reading list. I post a prompt every week, and people respond with original or fan fiction that is exactly 100 words in length.

What are you going to miss the most about Imzy, besides the people? I'm going to miss the ability to schedule posts!

How can social media sites be ethically profitable?

My understanding is that Imzy shut down because it wasn't growing fast enough + didn't have a working monetization strategy. Reddit, I believe, is still in the red, despite the huge userbase. Facebook is built entirely on analyzing the crap out of your activities and selling the result to advertisers. The one site I know in this category that doesn't suck and makes any money is Metafilter, which has a one-time $5 entrance fee. I don't know if that would scale, though.

How can a social site succeed, but without selling out its users, or becoming beholden to venture capitalists who will force such a sell-out?
